Potty Training Your Child

Is your child ready to get rid of the diapers? Many parents have a hard time determining when and how soon they should wean their child off of diapers. Potty training can be a hard and frustrating task. One thing you need to make sure you do is take potty training step by step. We have put together some tips and advice in order to help your child become potty trained in a timely manner.

Prepare Before You Actually Start Training

One of the best things you can start doing is teaching your child to use Pull Up underwear. This way they can slowly start to get used to the idea of real underwear. And it will also save you time because if they accidently go without Pull Up's you won't need to clean it up. Spend some time and explain to them that grown up's use the toilet when they need to go.

Try and teach them in a way that they will understand. One good way is to actually go through the proccess with them as a practice run. Then they will have a better idea on what to expect when the time comes to do it on their own.

Signs Of When To Potty Train

Most parents will want to start potty training around the age of 2-4. It seems that girls may start a little earlier than boys. Some signs will include him or her stating that he has to go. If he does, make sure you recognize it and praise him so he knows that what he is about to do is OK. Others will pull up and down on their elastic waist pants. Some children may even state that they want to be live mommy and daddy and use the grown up toilet. Purchase a booster seat so they will be able to use the grown up toilet with your help. Or you can even purchase a child toilet at any young child store.

Make Sure You Follow Through

One of the main things that will help you potty train is following through! Parents that take the time and be patient, will see better long term results. Also, make sure that you are very understanding and if they mess up don't punish them, but give them encouragement.

Fun Rewards

Let's face it, kids love rewards and treats. They will be very willing to follow your rules if you give them positive reinforcements. Start off small and give them a piece of candy every time they mention the fact that they need to go to the bathroom. As they start to get used to the idea of using the potty, and do it on their own, and then tell you, give them a bigger and better reward. Maybe you could promise them a trip to McDonald's if they go by themselves and let you know.
