Science Fair Projects
When doing a science fair project it is important that you keep in mind the age of the child and difficulty of the project. For example, a child in elementary would have a science fair project on a much lower scale of difficulty than someone in high school would have. When choosing a project for a younger child make sure to pick one that will be entertaining and keep the attention of your child so he is the one doing the work and not you. Here are a few ideas:
Number One
Does the amount of light on plants affect their growth? Take a few different plants and place them in different areas around your home. Put one by a window, outside, in a dark room, etc. This way you can determine how light is affecting the plants.
Number Two
What color of flowers attract hummingbirds best? If you live in an area where there are hummingbirds this could be a fun project. Simply go to the store and buy an assortment of different colored flowers. Plant them in your backyard or an area where the hummingbirds will likely come. You can observe from a window or your porch to see which ones the hummingbirds are coming to the most. Make a chart and write down all of your observations.
Number Three
Which brand of popcorn pops fastest? Go to the store and buy all the different brands of popcorn that they have. You can put them in the microwave and listen until they are all done popping and jot down your observations or simply put them all in for the same amount of time and when you take it out see which has the most kernels popped. Make sure to use the same microwave for all of the tests since microwaves all vary in cooking time.
Number Four
Do all people have the same normal body temperature? Get a thermometer and ask family and friends if you can take their temperature. Make sure you are asking boys and girls so you can get a variety of people. Have them keep it in their mouth for the same amount of time and make sure to sanitize the thermometer after each use. Have a piece of paper and pencil handy to write down your observations.
Science fair projects range from music to weather and everything else, but make sure whatever you choose you have fun with it!
