Why Breakfast?
Most people are aware that breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day, however, not everyone really know why. We will discuss why breakfast is so important and the benefits to eating a breakfast and the disadvantages of skipping breakfast.
Most Beneficial Meal Of The Day
Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day for a variety of reasons. One specific reason relates to the body's metabolism that will continue to burn calories throughout the day. In addition, the term breakfast is just that; it is a "break" of the "fast" while we sleep at night. There is a need for the body to replenish the stores of energy that the body keeps to be spend on activities throughout the rest of the day.
It is important that the food eaten at breakfast are healthy and are high in vitamins and minerals especially calcium, iron, and magnesium. Eating vitamins and minerals together with a high protein intake will help to improve memory and concentration and will improve efficiently. It can also help in controlling one's mood because we naturally experience a drop in blood sugar throughout the night and when we wake up our blood sugar is lowest. Some people's mood is affected more than others.
Also, eating a regular healthy breakfast can help with weight maintenance and even weight loss. While helping to speed up a person's metabolism it can also help the body burn excess calories rather than store up additional needed unneeded calories as fat. Some healthy breakfast foods could include whole grain bread coupled with fruit or fruit juice, low fat milk, eggs, oatmeal, or low sugar cereals. Some examples of healthy breakfast menus could include:
- two scrambled eggs with whole wheat toast, a grapefruit or some type of sliced melon, with a glass of orange juice and a glass of skim milk.
- a bowl of oatmeal with banana slices, a piece of whole wheat toast with low fat peanut butter spread on top, and a glass of skim milk.
- Whole wheat pancakes with fruit on top (instead of syrup), one boiled egg, and a glass of juice
- A bowl of low-sugared cereal with fruit on top, a scrambled egg, and a piece of whole wheat toast
- An omelet consisting of two eggs and one egg white (it becomes lower in fat when using egg whites), and filled with veggies such as tomatoes, onions, spinach, and mushrooms, sprinkled with low-fat cheese
Breakfast is the perfect way to start the day right. Those who eat a healthy breakfast have more energy and willpower than those who refrain from eating breakfast. By establishing not only a habit of eating breakfast, but eating a healthy breakfast, a person can be well on their way to a healthier lifestyle.
