Three Great Goals To Set For The New Year

It is very common for us to set goals each New Year or make New Year's resolutions. We each experience different degrees of success in achieving those goals we set. Nevertheless, we succeed even a little if we have improved ourselves at least in some degree.

So if setting goals for the New Year is a worthwhile ambition, what goals should we set for ourselves? There are many different areas of our life that we could choose to focus our efforts. The following are three areas along with several suggestions for specific goals that could be applied.

Area 1: Physical

Setting goals for physical improvement certainly is not a new concept. It may well be the most popular area of life that becomes a new year's resolution. Whatever the specific goal is relating to physical improvement, it should first be realistic; second, easy to track progress; and third, accompanied with some form of accountability. Achieving one's goals relating to our physical shape can do much to better our health, self esteem, and confidence.

Area 2: Mental/ Emotional

Working on our mental and emotional health could be one of the most important areas of focus in our life. All of our abilities and the motivation to succeed are controlled by our mental and emotional well being. It is difficult to progress in an area of our life until first we are able to establish a strong mental and emotional attitude. There are many different ways and exercise to help create a positive mental attitude. One way is to write down affirmations and then repeat them to yourself in the morning before starting the day, and then again at the close of the day. Be sure to change the affirmations regularly.

Another idea is to limit the amount of news programs viewed and/or read. This may sound strange, however, the majorities of stories shown on the news are negative and are involving problems and issues that neither directly affect us and are situations that we have little or no control over. Again, limit, not do without. It is important to stay informed on what is going on in the world in general.

Area 3: Spiritual

Each of us has different feelings when it comes to spirituality. Some feel that spirituality should be one of the most important if not the most important area of our life. We will not specifically state where the priority should be set, as that is a personal decision.

However, the spiritual aspect of our lives cannot be overlooked if we are to have a balanced lifestyle. With religious belief comes an important aspect of our everyday ability to cope with the daily trials and struggles we face as human beings. That aspect would be faith. There is great comfort knowing that we are first, never alone to deal with out hardships. Second, we can rely on a higher power for strength and understanding.
