Birthday Party Tips and Ideas

There truly are many, many ideas for birthday parties. There are several key points that parents might think about when trying to plan a successful birthday party. The following are a few key things to consider when planning your child's next birthday party.

Choose Appropriate Activities

First, it is very important to consider the kids' age that will be attending the party. Planning too much for the younger kids may become overwhelming and frustrating for all who are involved. For the older kids, you may want to stay away from some of the "cutsie" games and activities they may have enjoyed several years previous.

Location

Second, it is important to consider a good location for the birthday party. A couple of unique ideas for younger kids might be having the party at the zoo or at a swimming pool. In this way the party can hinge around a main activity and can occupy the majority of the time to plan for. It also saves on the mess that probably would be created if held at home. Also, depending on the location and amenities available the location would allow a greater number of attendees. Older kids or teens might enjoy attending an athletic event, concert, or eating at a restaurant with their friends.

Food

Another main component to a party to be considered is the food that is to be served at the party. It would be wise to serve "fun" food that kids traditionally like, such as pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, and chips. Of course a birthday cake can't be left out. It is important to make the cake personal and unique to that individual that is celebrating their birthday, but also a popular flavor for the those attending the party.

Invitations

Any great party begins with the invitation. Be sure that it matches the theme of the party (if the party has a theme) as well as being something that is eye catching. The invitation is said to be the "teaser" in that it gets attendees excited and anxious to be present at the birthday party. The invitation must include the following:

  • The event- Be clear what the event is and what the expected activities will be.
  • The location- Be sure to be clear on the address as well as the directions to get there.
  • The time- What time the party will be taking place, and how long it is expected to last.
  • What to bring-It is important to include a list of items that should be brought with the attendees such as swim wear, towels, sunscreen, and things of that nature if it were, for example, a swimming party.
