Making A Family Scrapbook

Scrapbooking is one of the most fun, effective way to capture family memories and preserve them for years and years. Keeping a family scrapbook is like journaling in the sense that it records important family events, activities, and momentous occasions. Yet, it goes beyond journaling because of the beautiful pictures and art that are apart of scrapbooking. It is often said that scrapbooks become works of art because of the time and effort put into creating one. There are several tips to consider when making a family scrapbook.

Shop The Sales

Scrapbooking is fun, relaxing, and often a fun social activity. Scrapbooking does take time and some money. In today's economy, it is important to budget and find ways to save money at all costs. Scrapbooking does not have to break your bank account. Be creative when shopping for scrapbook materials.

Most craft stores offer weekly coupons that will give the shopper anywhere from 25-50 percent off any item. Also, many craft stores offer weekly specials and deals. "Power hours" are a commonality and craft stores that offer huge savings at certain hours of the day. Again, a little creativity and doing one's homework can save a lot of money when shopping for your scrapbook supplies.

Take The Camera Everywhere

When creating a family scrapbook, the most important element is filling it with pictures of the family. Make sure you have a wide-variety of pictures of the family - candid shots, posed shots, and shots taken of just about anything exciting that your family is involved in. It is a good idea to carry the camera with you whenever your family is together - eating out, going to the park, vacationing; anywhere that you think you might get some great shots of the family doing fun things.

Individual Scrapbooks

One mother shared an idea of creating and keeping a scrapbook on each child in the family. When the children grow up and move on, the mother then gives the scrapbook to them when they move to college or get married. This way, the scrapbook is much more personalized to that child and captures all of the many things they are involved in. When children grow up, they would have a treasure of a scrapbook to show their posterity. Keeping and creating individual scrapbooks on each member of the family would require a bit more time and patience, but in the end, it would definitely be worth it.

Scrapbooking is a wonderful family activity that would preserve memories in a fun, creative way. By slowly collecting scrapbook materials and taking the camera along with you, you are sure to create a book filled with memories that will last a lifetime.
