Fatherhood And Time Management

Time seems to be what fathers wish they had more off. The reality is that a financial downturn in the economy has left fathers with less free time than ever before. It seems for many bread winners they are needing to work twice as hard to earn even less money than in past times. It is because of this that time management is more important than ever. It is critical that fathers determine properly their priorities in life and then budget their time wisely to the most important job they have, being a dad.

If you asked most fathers, they would tell you that being a dad, although difficult and trying at times, is what makes life worth living. A Christian leader once said that no success outside of the home can make up for failure within the home. So what can fathers do to ensure they don't neglect their most important responsibility?

Decide What Is Important

First, father must decide what is most important. As providers this isn't always easy or even possible to drop everything and leave work to attend a school play or a little league basketball game; however, much can be done to ensure that whenever possible, family time stays family time and business stays at work.

Fathers should commit to themselves and their family that they will be available for certain events. First lady Barbara Bush once told a group of professionals that at the end of one's life, they will not look back and wish they had closed one more deal or finished one more job, but that they had spent more time with children and family. This is sound advice.

If this great advice is followed, it will help to diminish regrets later on in life. Every father and mother should try to understand that their time to be parents is short and passes much faster than they are able to comprehend. It is easy to get caught up in the day to day routines in life, but they must keep perspective.

Make The Most Of Your Time

Second, fathers should strive to make the most of the time they do have to spend with their family. It is important to plan family activities and outings and to do all possible to create happy, lasting memories that children can look back on with fondness and security.

One of the most effective ways for a father to show his love and concern is by simply being there and spending time with his children. At the end of the day that is what children will remember most; dad being there to support them. Fathers, decided today what is truly important, and then make the most of the time you have with your children and family.
