Parent Hood

Parent hood may easily be the most important thing a person does during their life. Many of the traits people possess can be linked to heredity, but many habits and talents come as a result of parental influence. It is easy to spot a child that has a lot of parental involvement in their lives. The child with either one or both parents in their lives are typically more well adjusted than a child with little or no parental involvement. Parent hood can also bring with it heart aches and disappointments, but overall parenting is a very positive experience.

Parent Hood and Teens

When a child becomes a teenager parenting can be a rocky experience. A teen is going through so many changes in their lives physically, emotionally and mentally that they can be very difficult to deal with. Parenting is made even more complex with the influence of friends and others in the teen's life.

It may seem at times like the teen is not listening to their parents and that he or she is going to do exactly opposite of what they are being asked. When a teen makes a bad choice the parents are responsible to help the child out of the situation they have created. This can make parent hood seem like a very challenging experience.

Parent Hood Suggestions

Here are a few ideas that might make your experience with parent hood more tolerable. It is important that parents always remember that they are not a friend to their child. Most children have plenty of friends, but only two parents, kids want their parents to be parents not friends. It is also important for parents to spend as much time with their children as they possibly can.

Parents who have invested the time with their children as they are growing up will reap the reward of influence in the child's life as they mature and grow older. Children and teens are very intelligent. They can spot a phony a mile away. If a child believes that you are interested in them they will respond to you. As soon as they sense insincerity they will drop you instantly.

Parent Hood Resources

There are a vast amount of resources available to parents today. One common cliche indicates that children don't come with manuals. This is only partially true. While there is no manual given to parents at birth there are plenty of sources of information available. One good piece of advise is to treat children with respect and in as mature of a way as possible.

When a child or teen is treated with respect they will respond much more favorably than when they are talked down to or commanded to obey. This does not over ride the previous advice that children don't need parents to be their friends. Balance is necessary to keep parental control and still treat children with respect. Even though parent hood may be difficult it is also very rewarding.and respect.
