Bonding Close With Your Daughter

Being a parent today can be very difficult. Many kids, especially teenagers, are more and more involved with many different kinds of activities. Communication seems to be changing. With the advent of text messaging, many kids do less and less talking on the phone and feel more comfortable using the impersonal method of texting.

Being a parent in this environment can be particularly difficult for fathers trying to create a relationship and bond, especially with their daughters. We will discuss three ways for fathers to bond with their daughters.

Learn Your Daughter's Interests

It is important for any parent to learn the interest of their child if they are to be able to speak with them. Although at times teens act as though they don't care if their parents show interest. Quite often they search for the attention of their parents. It is a form of assurance and security. Once a father has learned the interest of his daughter's, he should work to become involved in those interests in some way. It may be that she is involved in sports or theater of maybe music. Encourage her to develop her talents. Try to become somewhat knowledgeable in the areas she shows interest in. this will show her that you really care.

Show Support

Take every opportunity possible to show support of your daughter's interests and activities. Try to attend soccer games, plays, and/or concerts that she may become or be involved in. For her, being able to see her father's face in the audience will cement in her mind your love and dedication of her and all that she is involved in.

That will pay huge dividends when creating a higher level of trust between the two of you. Also, a father should be involved in his daughter/s schooling and education. A father should sacrifice to make college and other schooling not only a possibility but a reality. A solid education is vital for young women, especially in today's world.

Listen To Her

One of the hardest skill-sets dads are required to use is that of listening without interrupting. Men are problem solvers and almost immediately upon hearing about a particular problem or worry they try to figure out a solution. It is difficult for men to comprehend that often women just want someone who will listen to them. They are not looking for someone to give them advice or to help them formulate a plan.

They simply want to be able to vent their frustrations in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable; an environment without the fear of being judged or criticized. Although fathers may never be perfect, with a little effort and a lot of patience, relationships with their daughters can be meaningful and full of love, trust and respect.
